The final verse is often meant to tie things up
But in this case my morals have been most corrupt
    I don’t remember it well
I was in love for a spell

Tie things up?

The Penultimate Clunch

Soon enough our lips will linger
and You stop to pull away

The Kids Are Sick Again ist das erste richtige Statement.

    I don’t mind loosing self-respect
I’ve done it before, and I will do it again
I stifle tonight which is fine
I’ve done it before, and I will do it again

„The Kids Are Sick Again“ gibt damit sehr gut den Gesamtcharakter des Albums wieder.

Speaking of which. Mit A cloud of mystery folgt der nächste emotional erdrückende magische musikalische Moment. In dunkle, in traurige.

It’s about the ritual of going out and maintaining a mysterious aura, even though that’s a ridiculous concept. (Paul Smith über „A Cloud Of Mystery“)

    At night she strips
away the face that she creates
    The mirror sighse
    Why can’t we always meet
    under a cloud of mystery

Taking long walks in perfect silence
    Join together in useless harmony
Your hard breath means that you’re upset
    An overheated northwest bliss

Wo ist eigentlich die Party? Mal ehrlich. Aber abzappeln kann man herrlich zu In Another World (You’d Have Found Yourself By Now).

„It started out on an acoustic guitar when the demo was recorded but in LA it morphed into what I am terming ‚robo-funk-pop‘. Because I can…“ (Paul Smith über „Let’s Get Clinical“)

Let’s get back to your house
    and finish off the gin
    in your disheveled room
we’re gonne wash ourselves in sin

It’s criminal when you whisper in my ear
    let’s get clinical
    words delivered with a snear
    let’s get clinical

I’d like to map your body out
    inch by inch
    North to South

    This isn’t the first time
    but it still feels innocent
I just want to kiss you

    If it’s a grower
why can’t we take things slower

Einer vom Schlage „Sandblasted And Set Free“ vom Vorgängeralbum.

„It has, arguably, the most soaring chorus on the record and live audiences have been enjoying the Cars-style breakdown.“ (Paul Smith über „Questing, Not Coasting“)

    Questing, I am not caosting
    nor will I ever
    despite this weather
    I said „Hey You, what’s new“
    I know Your Face
    let’s go some place
My thoughts that fled my lousening grip
I need to connect to you now
On our knees against the window sill
    Watching sheet lightning fly…

It’s late and I miss You mostly
    the body gets confused
    You got a new bike
and all I got was the picture
but You were nowhere to be found
remember the time when we rent a car for the day
we got a map and I tried to navigate

The Taliban takeover seems likely to return Afghanistan to its pre-9/11 days of fundamentalism, oppression and fanatical misogyny. But one thing is different now: Afghanistan’s women tasted freedom in the last 20 years, and took it upon themselves to rebuild their country.

  • hgame56 sagt:

Afghan women have been used as political pawns and treated more as symbols than humans by powerful people (mostly men) on all sides of the conflict — too many of them American leaders who worked against women’s rights at home but laid claim to feminism when it helped them justify a war, as well as the Afghan religious zealots who felt entitled to define „culture“ so that it served their interests and wrote Afghan women out of their own stories.
