Der plötzliche Tod von Philip Seymour Hoffman war ein ganz schöner Schlucker. Auf der Liste der Frühabtretenden hatte ich ihn jedenfalls nicht – und mir eigentlich gewünscht, sein kraftvolles Schauspiel noch viele Male zu erleben. Grund genug, ihm diese Spreewelle zu widmen. Optisch und akustisch.
Die 40 Tracks werden eingerahmt von zwei Mitschnitten aus „The Master“, in dem Hoffmann einen charismatischen und machtbessesenen Kultführer spielt. Dabei verliert er Worte und Sätze, die vor dem Hintergrund seines tragischen Todes eine ganz besondere Bedeutung verleiht werden.

Nach der dramatischen Erföffnungssequenz, in der Philip Seymour einen Kritiker von Zeitreisen und Wiedergeburten drastisch den Marsch blässt, poltert genau so energisch und angsteinflößend „Dangerous“ von Big Data herein. Ein ungewohnt knarziger Einstieg in eine dann – versprochen – auch wieder heitere Spreewelle.

Aus Österreich stammt die soundtechnisch bestens passende Fortführung. Bilderbuch gibt es schon seit 2005, doch erst jetzt kurz vor ihrem zehnjährigen Bestehen haben sie mit dem dreckigen „Maschin“ die Eintrittskarte zu den Playlisten von FluxFM und FM4 in der Hand. Ein sonderbarer aber sehr eingängiger Track. Da klingt der „Joker“ der Steve Miller Band an, sowie – unverkennbar – „Grandma’s Hands“ von Bill Withers. Das alles ordentlich verstärkt und extrem laut.
Über Pyramid’s ebenfalls deftigem, aber schon tanzbareren „Astral“ gelangt die erste Seite dann zurück zur Indie-Elektronik. Erstaunliche fünf Jahre hat schon folgender Track auf dem Buckel, dabei könnte er genauso gut auf der aktuellen Daft Punk gewesen sein. However: Gnadenlos guter Discosound. Und französisch, natürlich.
Wie auch Saint Pepsi, ein Projekt aus Boston, das sich völlig schamfrei am Sound von Aretha Franklin bzw. Sister Sledge verlustiert. Heraus kommt häufig richtig gute Laune und manchmal auch ein Hit. Gin City heißt die Platte und ist in ihrer Länge ggf. zu viel des guten. Aber „Cherry Pepsi“ – was nichts anderes als ein runtergekochtes „Bring Your Own Baby“ ist, reicht ja auch erst einmal.
Wie Topf auf Deckel passt dazu: Ein neues Lebenszeichen von Jean Tonique. Dessen Remix-Kunst hat uns ja schon bei der 103. Ausgabe Freude bereitet. Mit seiner aktualisierten Version von Pooms „Face The Fire“ hat er diesmal sogar noch eins drauf gelegt. Und das lässt sich hier herunterladen.
Richtig gute Laune bekommt man auch bei „Sing Songs“, einem noch erstaunlich unbekanntem Track von einem DJ namens Pogomix (okay, fang vielleicht mal mit dem Namen an). Immerhin gibt es schon ein Video-Redo von dem seicht bis leichtem Song.
Capital Cities haben im Jahr 2013 ein Dauer-Abo auf die Spreewelle gehabt. Kein Wunder, ihr Debut „“ sprühte ja auch gerade zu von Nummer Einsen. Eine davon – Kangaroo Court (zu der es drei unterschiedliche und immer witzige Videos gibt) – liegt jetzt im „Shook Remix“ vor. Was für ein relaxter Sound!
Zu den dringenden Empfehlungen der zweiten Seite gehört auf jeden Fall eine Band namens Malky. Die kommen aus Deutschland. Was man zu ihrem Glück überhaupt nicht hört. „Diamonds“ ist eine erschreckend graziöse Soul-Ballade, die alles richtig macht.
Noch tiefer ins Herz trifft Jacob Bellens, ein Däne, der kurz vor der Veröffentlichung seines Follow-Up-Albums steht. Poetisch, emotional, klassisch. „Do You Have Anything Harder“ ist ein meisterhafter Song, der natürlich auch ganz blendend zum traurigen Titel der aktuellen Spreewelle passt, leider.

Aus dieser schmonzettigen Ecke gibt es dieses Mal einiges. Keine Beschwerden also mehr, dass auf der Spreewelle neuerdings zu wenig geweint wird. Die Stimmung hebt dann irgendwann: Boy And Bear. Ihre aktuelle Platte ist ein Grower. Und „Part Time Believer“ ein ziemlich dreister Diebstahl. Hört ihn Euch bitte mal bis kurz vor den Refrain an. Na? Klingelt da was? Ein Pferd in der Wüste? Und dann pfeiffen sie auch noch. Herrlich.

Zuletzt sei noch als Inspirationsquelle für geschätzte 30% der zweiten Seite das Dschungelcamp genannt und bei ihm bedankt. Bzw. bei der phänomenalen Musikredaktion. Ganz ganz großartige Arbeit. Daher stammt z.B. Max Deluxes „I See Fire“, Bear’s Den’s „Pompeii oder auch William Fitzsimmons‘ „Beautiful Girl“ – eine Ode für Larissa.
