Sie sind schon einfach zum Liebhaben, die Wombats – spätestens seit „Let’s Dance To Joy Division“. Und wie schön es gewesen wäre, wenn der Folgetext „And Celebrate The Irony“ mit zum Titel gehört hätte, vielleicht in Klammern (dieses etwas aus der Mode gekommene Songtitel-Stilmittel wird eh viel zu selten benutzt). Mit „Moving To New York“ zeigten sie im Winter, dass sie mehr als ein Einhitwunder sind und nun – offiziell auch in Deutschland – möchten sie der Stringenz halber das gleich über die Spielzeit eines ganzen Albums unter Beweis stellen.

Wenn man sie das mal lässt, ist man 45 Minuten seines Lebens ärmer, aber gleichzeitig auch mit Sicherheit um einiges glücklicher und fröhlicher. Die Band aus dem unausschöpflich erscheinenden Liver-Pool tischt eine freche Unbeschwertheit nach der anderen auf. Textlich bewegen wir uns hier in schnoddrigen Teenagerromanzen, in Geschichten, die vom Abschlussball und Schuluniformen erzählen, okay. Aber Matthew Murphs urbritisches Organ, die Nonchalantness der Songstrukturen und schließlich und endlich diese begnadenswerten Melodien entheben die Wombats aus der großen fetten Teenie-Britpop-Suppe. „Moving To New York („Cause I Got Trouble Wit Myself)“, natürlich „Let’s Dance To Joy Division“ aber auch „Backfire At The Disco“ und „Lost In The Post“ sind vier so große Hits, wie man sie tatsächlich seit einigen Monaten nicht mehr von der Insel gehört hat. Für mich battlen die Wombats genrezugehörtechnisch mit den Kooks und No Panic At The Disco. Die haben jeweils gerade ihre zweiten Longplayer in die Läden gestellt.

Klar, das alles ist alles, aber nicht neu. Aber es ist so frisch. Und so schön schnell. Und Wombats sind süß.
