Ach wie hübsch. Sarah schoss das schöne Samplerfoto in Stockholm für den Monat März, der ja nun bereits seit einiger Zeit hinter uns liegt. Applaus! Geprägt von der Vorfreude war der Monat. Auf den Frühling. Auf das Endederkrise. Auf die vielversprechenden neuen Veröffentlichungen.

Mando Diao haben da ja schon vorgelegt. Trotz ihres kommerziellen Erfolges ist ihr neues Album „Give Me Fire“ das Beste seit „Hurrican Bar“. Und das will was heißen bei der hektisch überhasteten Veröffentlichungspolitik der Schweden. Zum Stockholmer Idyll des Covers also erzählen die Jungs im wundervollen Kinnhaken-Opener von einem Kleidungsstück.

Dass sie dabei überhaupt nicht mehr käsig nach The-The-Bands klingt, spricht für die Entwicklung Mando Diaos – und ist ein großes Glück. Denn genauso lassen sich „Fortune“ und „Micachu“ kaum bis gar nicht in vorkonfektionierte Schubladen stecken. Es ist elektrisch bis eklektisch. Eine zunächst unzusammenhängend klingende Sammlung an Sounds, die es aber trotzdem schafft sich dereinst in so etwas wie Harmonie zu ergeben.

Phoenix lässt aufatmen und vertont mit der Lässigkeit eines Six-Hit-Wonders die gute Nachricht des musikalischen 2009: Fast alle alten Bekannten, die dieser Tage neues Material in gepresster Form anbieten, haben ihre Sache gut gemacht. Das gilt für die Rifles, die Rakes, Whitest Boy Alive und – das freut besonders – auch für Maximo Park.

Die Seite 1 ist dann ab der Mitte auch geprägt von aufbrausender Indiepopgitarre. Wärmste Empfehlungen werden ausgesprochen für die New Rhodes, für die Delays, oder auch für die Rushes. Alles mehr als ordentlicher Nachschub für die in letzter Zeit doch arg vernachlässigte Kaste „simpel, laut und gut“.

Da kommt man dann auf den Geschmack. Es ist schon erstaunlich, dass die Plain White Ts die Frechheit besitzen, mit derart altbackender Herangehensweise zu musizieren. „Meet Me In California“ klingt nach High School Rock von vor 10 Jahren. Aber es geht noch besser: Ihr „1 2 3 4“ beherrscht nicht nur unglaublich vorhersehbar das 1 mal 1 des Pop, es klingt auch noch haarsträubend nach der Formel, mit der sich vor 15 Jahren Bands wie Mr. Big oder Extreme ohne Rücksicht auf Verluste an die Formatradiosender dieses Landes gekuschelt haben. Aber was soll’s? Gut gemacht ist gut gemacht.

Damit sind wir auch schon auf Seite 2. Deren Bestückung gestaltete sich im März nicht ganz leicht. Monat Drei fremdelt häufig unsicher mit winterlicher Kuschelromantik und sommerlicher Lagerfeuerromantik und hat von Natur aus nur wenig Platz für die gedehnte Melacholie.

Deshalb gab’s auch nur 16 Startplätze zu vergeben. Zum Beispiel mit „Arsenal“ – eine der bislang ganz wenigen Beiträge des diesjährigen SWSX-Festivals, die erwähnenswert sind. Allerdings ist bei den 6 Gigabyte Musik, die es dort völlig legal zum Download gibt, die Auswertung auch nur bis zum Buchstaben H gelangt. Wer weiß, vielleicht tummeln sich auf der nächsten Spreewelle Interpreten wie Holly Conlan, Holly Golilightly, Holly Hail und Honey Honey?

Newcomer wie Blind Pilot und Billy The Vision müssen auf der zweiten Hälfte also unterstützt werden von Sichauskennern wie den „All New Adventures Of Us“, „Van She“ oder tatsächlich auch „Death Cab For Cutie“. Deren „The Ice Is Getting Thinner“ ragt noch aus ihrem im Mai 2008 veröffentlichten „Narrow Stairs“. Aber es muss schon März 2009 werden damit dieses Stück so gut passt.

Den Schlussakkord setzt dann das nach meiner Meinung Beste, wenn auch unauffällige Rihanna-Cover von John West. Damit gehen wir alle entspannt und gut gemütet in den April. Auch wenn wir da schon längst sind.
